Arts and Culture Club Hosts First Issues in Arts Conference
On April 11, the Arts and Culture club will host the inaugural Issues in the Arts Conference. The day-long conference will focus on the business side of the arts by taking a look at the challenges arts organizations and artists face today. Speakers from arts organizations, outside promoters, and independent artists will approach the issues through two main questions: How can arts organizations develop new audiences while supporting the work of new artists? And, how can arts organizations and artists balance self-promotion with intellectual property protection in the digital age?
Among the participants will be Elena Park, assistant manager for editorial and creative content at the Metropolitan Opera; Jennifer Kiger, associate artistic director for the Yale Repertory Theatre; Gigi Sohn, president of digital rights watchdog Public Knowledge; and Robin Bateau, a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer.
